It is home to thousands of migratory waterfowl as well as numerous resident desert birds. There are nine ponds available for birding, surrounded by five miles of trail that are both paved and soft surfaces. The paved path is approximately 3/4 of a mile long and is accessible by wheelchair. The soft surfaces are mostly level and allow for easy walking. When you visit, expect to do a lot of walking and allow yourself adequate time to visit the area. We also recommend that you wear appropriate clothing and comfortable, sturdy shoes. Bring water, a hat, and wear sunscreen. If you do not have binoculars, we have some available for you to use.


Please do not feed the birds or wildlife. The Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve is located on the eastern edge of the Pacific Migratory Flyway and many of the birds that come here are temporary visitors. Feeding wildlife disrupts natural feeding behaviors and encourages an unhealthy association with humans. Pets are not permitted at this facility.


The Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve offers a variety of programming and events for the public to enjoy such as an outdoor classroom for scientific students, educational programs and recreation opportunities. Celebrate National Bird Day with this FREE event at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve. Staff will offer free bird tours on our bird mobile. Tours will be scheduled every hour until noon. We will have experts on-site to answer your questions.

Celebrate National Seed Swapping Day with this FREE event and get ready to plant new items in your garden. We will have seeds available for swapping and encourage fellow gardeners to bring seeds to add to our seed library. Gardening experts will be on-site to assist with questions.

Please join us as we spend a day taking care of the place that means so much to our migratory bird friends. Work gloves and trash bags will be provided as we pick up trash, debris and cut back some of the invasive plant species at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring water, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

Take an after-hours walk through the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve. Birds are most active at dawn and dusk, so if you are a night owl, this is for you. A fun and educational time will be had for children and adults alike. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Birds sing, hunt and soar during this event as campers become honorary ornithologists (bird scientists).

Enjoy some time in the outdoors on our self-guided egg hunt at the Bird Viewing Preserve. Registered participants receive a map and sticker set before they scavenger around the preserve to find eggs. When an egg is located, a sticker is placed on your map over that location. Completed maps can be redeemed for a designated prize in our Bird Preserve Gift Shop. Please leave all eggs in the hiding spaces for others to enjoy the game. You must be registered to receive a prize.

March's Monarch Garden includes interpretive signage as well as a serene walking path, which features milkweed and nectar plants that were specifically selected as nourishment for the butterflies.

In addition to having the experience of seeing these of eye-catching butterflies in a natural habitat, our garden visitors also will be able to view – and take selfies with – a stunning double-sided mural created by local artist Shan Michael Evans.

Monarch butterflies are on the endangered species list and the Monarch Butterfly Garden aims to help with their preservation while providing educational opportunities to Henderson residents.

March's Monarch Garden is dedicated to and honors former Mayor Debra March’s 13 years of service to the City of Henderson and its award-winning park system. Under her leadership, the City opened 37 parks and added 184 miles of trails.

The Remembering 1 October Collection at the Clark County Museum is made up of over 22,000 artifacts that help to tell the story of how the community reacted to the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival. The artifacts have been cataloged to record information such as physical descriptions, dimensions, and conditions. Each artifact was also photographed or scanned for identification purposes. The Clark County Museum is a function of Clark County Parks and Recreation, which is accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies. The museum is a 30-acre site that features a modern exhibit hall with a timeline exhibit about southern Nevada from pre-historic to modern times and a collection of restored historic buildings that depict daily life from different decades in Las Vegas, Boulder City and Henderson.

The Anna Robert Parks Exhibit Hall takes the museum visitors through a historical journey from the Ice Age to Age of Entertainment. The timeline chronicles the history and culture of the ancient Pueblo and more recent Paiute, the first Anglo pioneers and their daily lives, early town-sites and land auction camps, mining technology and the gaming and entertainment heritage of Las Vegas. The Heritage Gallery changing exhibits feature art and artifacts in their historical context. Heritage Street homes offer doorways into past decades, from the 1910s to the 1970s. The Boulder City depot and collection of railroad cars recall the railroad heritage of southern Nevada, while the arrested decay along the Ghost Town and Mining Trail offers a perspective on life in the hot and arid Southwest environment.

At the Lion Habitat Ranch we strive to provide our animals the best care possible. We use a variety of enrichment and training to accomplish this. One of Ozzie the giraffe’s favorite training sessions are his painting sessions. Each one of Ozzie the giraffe’s masterpieces are an original piece of work.
